Brittney Griner Provided With Charter Flights After Airport Harassment

WNBA star Brittney Griner is in the news once again and it’s not for her accomplishments on the court. Griner hogged the headlines in 2022 after she was arrested in Russia for carrying cannabis oil.

She served 10 months in a Russian prison before the White House intervened and got her out through a prisoner exchange!

Griner Harassed By YouTuber At Dallas Airport

Griner returned to the US in December 2022 and soon after joined Phoenix Mercury to resume her WNBA career. Phoenix Mercury hasn’t done very well this season and recently fired head coach Vanessa Nygaard after a 2-10 start this season. Brittney Griner reported an unpleasant incident earlier this months and shared a little more information this week on a call where Phoenix Mercury introduced new interim head coach Nikki Blue.

Griner was harassed earlier this month at the international airport in Dallas/Fort Worth by a YouTuber. The individual came up to Griner who was at the airport and started asking her a bunch of inappropriate questions including whether she had to sleep with Russian President Vladmir Putin in order to secure her release from prison!

To avoid such incidents happening in the future, the WNBA and Phoenix Mercury have agreed to fly Griner private going forward. While Griner is happy to fly private now, she feels the decision should have been made a lot earlier!

Griner Will Now Get Access To Chartered Flights

I’ll say this. I think we should have already had the option to use a different airline, a more private airline, charter flights. It’s a shame that it had to get to rock bottom, because I feel like waiting for something to happen and then making a change … you don’t know what that “something’s” gonna be. We’ve all seen what can happen in this world. And when you play the, “Let’s-wait-and-see-game” you’re really playing with fire. You’re playing with people’s lives

As of now, Griner will receive special treatment as the rest of her teammates at Phoenix Mercury will not get to fly private and this could create a bit of unrest within the basketball team!
