Conor McGregor does not need to fight for money anymore as he has made millions and is set for life. However, the Irish superstar loves the adulation and being in the center of the limelight – something he has struggled to do since losing his match to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2018.
Since then, McGregor has had just one fight with Cowboy Cerrone in Jan 2020 which he won in 40 seconds. MMA fans were not very impressed with McGregor as many believed he should have fought a tougher opponent. McGregor has lost a lot of fans in the last couple of years and is desperate to once again fight and gain the respect that he craves for.
Conor McGregor recently posted messages on social media of an interaction that he had with UFC President Dana White campaigning for a fight. Part of that exchange was McGregor campaigning to fight veteran Diego Sanchez who is unranked and at the end of his career.
To Diego Sanchez…
I seen your recent comments about your final bout and I am in!
After you fought Pereira, I had requested for myself and you to compete in Dublin. This was back in February when I was working on opposition for my season, pre covid.
Good luck this weekend! pic.twitter.com/Y0hf6Zr7XF— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) September 25, 2020
White made it very clear that there was going to be no fight against Diego Sanchez during their exchange. McGregor published these private messages to show fans that he has been asking the UFC for a fight throughout 2020 but they haven’t been keen on giving him one.
White wasn’t impressed with McGregor leaking their private messages and said it was one of the lowest things a man can do as posting personal messages violated the man-code. McGregor was quick to respond and tell White that he broke the code first by lying.
What we must point out is that McGregor waited to post all of these messages right before UFC 253 Adesanya vs. Costa could take place. The media immediately shifted focus from UFC253 and once again shone the spotlight on McGregor.
McGregor Wants To Box Pacquiao and Poirier
McGregor also claims that he is now in talks to box Manny Pacquiao and claims the UFC is aware of these talks – something that Dana White has denied. McGregor and Pacquiao have the same management company and McGregor claims the fight will take place in Abu Dhabi.
Anyway all water under the bridge who gives a fook.

McGregor also took to social media to call out his old foe Dustin Poirier to fly to Ireland and box him in a charity match. McGregor has promised to donate $500k to Poirier’s charity and additional funds to other charities. This proposed charity match will not be endorsed by the UFC.
Given the fact that he wants to box both Pacquiao and Poirier plus get an MMA fight in the cage even though he is ‘retired’, shows that McGregor is just chasing clout to try and stay relevant.
