Pro Football Hall of Fame Reveals List Of 25 Semi-finalists For Class Of 2024

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has released its list of players who have been shortlisted as the 25 semifinalists of the modern-era to be inducted into the Class of 2024.

There are not a lot of surprises on the list as 18 of the shortlisted players were also part of the semifinalist list for the Class of 2023.

List Will Be Further Trimmed To Just 15 Players

To be eligible to qualify for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, players should not be active for a 5 year period. The initial list of players consisted of a group of 173 names which was made public in Sep 2023. This group was then reduced to just 25 players and those names were revealed on Nov 28 on the NFL Network.

The selection committee will now look to trim down the list to just 15 players before the selection committee which is made up of 50 people from the Hall of Fame will determine who will enter the Class of 2024. The new inductees into the Hall of Fame will be revealed on the NFL Honors telecast live on Feb 8 ahead of Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.

There is no set number of inductees into the Hall of Fame but Selection Committee bylaws state that around 4 to 9 new members will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The Class of 2024 will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Aug 3 in Canton, Mexico during the 2024 Enshrinement Week.

Who Are The 25 Semifinalists?

 

The 25 modern day semifinalists are James Harrison, Jared Allen, Eric Allen, Dwight Freeney, Anquan Boldin, Devin Hester, Jahri Evans, Andre Johnson, London Fletcher, Torry Holt, Eddie George, Patrick Willis, Rodney Harrison, Willie Anderson, Robert Mathis, Darren Woodson, Steve Smith Sr., Antonio Gates, Fred Taylor, Julius Peppers, Hines Ward, Vince Wilfork, Reggie Wayne, Tiki Barber and Ricky Watters.

The three players who made it to the 25 semifinalist shortlist in just their first year of being eligible were Julius Peppers, Tiki Barber and Antonio Gates.
