Summary:
- Seattle Seahawks’ grab the Super Bowl title, with help from defence that controlled the Big Game against the New England Patriots from start to finish.
- The Patriots’ offence stalled under constant pressure, with Drake Maye sacked six times and forced into risky throws late.
- Sam Darnold and the Seahawks offence did just enough, turning patience and field position into a 29-13 win.
The Seattle Seahawks who survived the Rams in the 2025 NFC championship game had to lean on their defence and patience to grind out a 29-13 win over the New England Patriots, taking home the Super Bowl 60 title.
It was not a flashy game for much of the night. The first three quarters felt heavy, physical, and slow, with yards hard to find and mistakes punished immediately. However, the game suited Seattle just fine, as their defence, ranked first in the league, controlled the line of scrimmage from the opening snap and never let go.
New England arrived in Santa Clara with momentum and confidence after turning a 1-2 start into a dominant run that carried them through the playoffs.
They had allowed just 26 points in three postseason wins, though that stretch came against offences missing key contributors. The question all week was whether that defence could slow down one of the league’s most productive playoff offences.
They did, at least early. Seattle managed only field goals in the first half and led 9-0 at the break. Another kick on the opening drive of the third quarter pushed the lead to 12-0, but the game still felt within reach. Seattle’s offence was steady but far from explosive.
Kenneth Walker III kept the chains moving, while Sam Darnold completed just 19 of 38 passes. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, so often the spark, finished with four catches for 27 yards.
Problems Moving the Ball
What New England could not do was move the ball consistently. The Patriots, who averaged nearly 29 points per game in the regular season, looked stuck in neutral.
Their run game never found rhythm, and quarterback Drake Maye spent most of the night under pressure or facing long third downs. He was sacked six times and hurried repeatedly, forced to throw the ball away or scramble without much payoff.
The breaking point came late in the third quarter, when Seattle finally forced a turnover with a strip sack of Maye. Not long after, Darnold found tight end AJ Barner for the game’s first touchdown, stretching the lead to 19-0 and shifting the mood for good.

Maye did manage a brief response with back-to-back deep completions to Mack Hollins, but the throws felt desperate. Another deep attempt soon turned into an interception, ending any realistic comeback hopes.

The contrast between the quarterbacks told its own story. Maye is 23, immensely talented, and still early in his career. Darnold, once in a similar position, has already taken the long road. Seattle bet that experience would matter, and it did.
The Patriots do not need to panic. Maye is the future. But after four playoff games against elite defences that produced just 67 total points, it is clear that help around him is the next priority.
Seattle, meanwhile, proved that even in today’s NFL, defence and control still win championships.
