His promise is to change all of that if he is elected Governor.<\/p>\n<p>Maddox, who is currently the mayor of Tuscaloosa, focused on two issues that he basing his campaign on. He wants a state lottery to be established to help fund education and he wants to see an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicaid.alabama.gov\">expansion to Medicaid<\/a> to prevent further rural hospital closures. He pointed out that the state has been near the bottom in things that matter. Alabama, which is one of just a few states without a lottery, is going to be completely surrounded by states that have lotteries very soon.<\/p>\n<p>Maddox thinks that the proceeds from a state lottery could be used to <strong>fund college scholarships, kindergarten and underfunded schools<\/strong>. However, gambling opponents have always been reluctant to allow a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/us\">legalized lottery industry in the US<\/a> state as it could contribute towards gambling addiction and cause more trouble than good for the state.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WAAY-TV 31 News<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sJcRlFjgq0E?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Would Need Cooperation From Legislature<\/h2>\n<p>Implementing a state lottery would require the Alabama Legislatures to be on the same page and that will be some feat. A constitutional amendment would need to be introduced by lawmakers and the issue of a state lottery would need to be put to statewide vote. While Maddox is confident that he can pull of a state lottery, there are a number of \u2018<em>if\u2019s<\/em>\u2019 attached to his promises.<\/p>\n<h2>Ivey\u2019s Office Fires Back<\/h2>\n<p>A spokeswoman for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kay_Ivey\">Governor Ivey<\/a> responded by saying that Maddox\u2019s criticisms are nothing but a strategy to distract voters from his agenda which is very liberal. The spokesperson said that the Governor is focusing on her job of building a better future for Alabama and would not be distracted by remarks made by Maddox.
