Here is what happened on an action-packed Wednesday night in the Champions League:<\/p>\n

Tottenham 1-2 Juventus (4-3 on aggregate to Juventus)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Tottenham headed into this clash in good spirits. The north London side had a good chance to make the last eight after a very respectable 2-2 draw at the Allianz Stadium in the first leg. Unfortunately, it was not to be for the Premier League side.<\/p>\n

The home took the lead on 39 minutes through South Korean international Heung-min Son. Dele Alli attempted to shot, only for a Juventus defender to slide in and divert the ball to full-back Kieran Trippier, who squared the ball to Son and the forward fired home.<\/p>\n

The goal put the home side in the driving seat in the tie overall. However, two goals in the space of three second-half minutes broke Spurs hearts. The first arrived on 64 minutes, as Argentinian international striker Gonzalo Higuain finished after a flick on from Germany international Sami Khedira.<\/p>\n

The Bianconeri took the lead on the night and in the tie on 67 minutes, as Paolo Dybala was allowed to run through on goal before keeping his cool to beat Hugo Lloris in the home goal. Spurs came close to equalising when Harry Kane saw a header hit a post before rolling along the goalline to safety.<\/p>\n

In the end, the experienced Champions League campaigners of Juventus went through. Relative rookies Spurs will have to wait until next year to attempt to get past the last 16 of Europe\u2019s elite competition.<\/p>\n

Manchester City 1-2 Basel (5-2 on aggregate to Manchester City)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Manchester City suffered a surprise 2-1 second leg defeat at home against Swiss champions Basel. However, a 4-0 win in the first leg rendered the result pretty meaningless, although it did end a 36-game unbeaten home run for City in all competitions.<\/p>\n

City actually took the lead on eight minutes and it looked like it was going to be another routine victory for the Citizens. Leroy Sane produced some good footwork to find Bernardo Silva and the Portuguese international cross found Gabriel Jesus at the back post and the striker tapped home.<\/p>\n

The visitors responded on 18 minutes, though. Highly-rated full-back Blas Riveros got forward and found Mohamed Elyounoussi in the centre of the area and the striker fired powerfully past Claudio Bravo to level the scores on the night.<\/p>\n

The visitors took the lead on the night on 71 minutes. Elyounoussi was involved once again, taking on Yaya Toure before finding Michael Lang in the City area. The defender then proceeded to hit an effort over Bravo and into the far corner of the net.<\/p>\n

The victory was a big scalp for the Swiss side, as it ended Manchester City\u2019s run of 12 straight home wins in the Champions League. However, all the hard work was done in the first leg and Pep Guardiola\u2019s side will be watching with interest to see who they draw in the last eight. The Premier League leaders are the favourites to win the trophy this season.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
