The bank\u2019s spokesperson confirmed that the project will be using <a href=\"https:\/\/ripple.com\/\">Ripple\u2019s<\/a> xCurrent platform. Ripple has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/ripple-forms-consortium-apply-block-chain-technology-securities\/\">successful<\/a> in striking a series of partnerships with large financial institutions in the recent past. Earlier in January, MoneyGram, IDT corporation, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/ripple-network-adds-two-more-real-world-use-cases\/\">MercuryFX<\/a> entered into an agreement with Ripple to test xRapid platform. Ripple\u2019s platform enables cross border transfer in a matter of a few seconds, while saving as much as 60% cost, compared to traditional methods of bank transfer.<\/p>\n<p>Santander Group had been working on the project for the past 18 months. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finextra.com\/newsarticle\/31617\/banco-santander-prepares-for-q1-roll-out-of-personal-payments-via-ripple\">Finextra<\/a>, the employees of Santander were busy integrating Apple Pay for payments between \u00a314 and $14,000. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.santander.com\/csgs\/Satellite\/CFWCSancomQP01\/en_GB\/pdf\/Earnings_Presentation_ENGLISH_4T17.pdf#page=44\">2017 earnings presentation<\/a> indicates that the company aims to roll out the facility in Spain, UK, Brazil and Poland in the first-quarter of 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The app will enable cross border payments within one minute. Users of the mobile app will be provided with a digital wallet and a personal finance manager to assist in peer-to-peer payments.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>spokesperson of Santander<\/strong> said<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;we plan to launch this in the next few months, and we can confirm on the record that we plan to use xCurrent in the project.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Notably Ripple\u2019s xCurrent product does not use XRP, the native currency of the Ripple platform. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bgarlinghouse\/status\/959485434807033857\">Brad Garlinghous<\/a>e, chief executive of Ripple tweeted that the app will be released in the first quarter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spanish banking giant Santander Group is working on a mobile app that will facilitate cross border payments within a minute.
