However, here is what happened in a big night on Premier League football on Tuesday night:<\/p>\n

Southampton 1-2 Crystal Palace<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Crystal Palace picked up a vital win at St Mary’s to drag Southampton further towards the drop zone.<\/p>\n

Southampton took the lead on 17 minutes, as a 1,320-minute goal-draught ended for striker Shane Long. The striker picked up the ball from Jeremy Pied 12 yards out before swivelling and firing low past Wayne Hennessey.<\/p>\n

However, Palace were level on 69 minutes. Andros Townsend\u2019s set-piece was head down by Christian Benteke to midfielder James McArthur, who beat Fraser Forster. Just as the game looked to be heading for a draw, the visitors snatched a winner with just ten minutes remaining on the clock. Townsend\u2019s cross found Luka Milivojevic on the edge of the area and the midfielder\u2019s low effort flew into the bottom corner of the net.<\/p>\n

The result leaves the home side 17th<\/sup> place in the Premier League, only outside of the relegation courtesy of a superior goal difference to 18th<\/sup> place Stoke. The win moved the Eagles up to 14th<\/sup> in the table, but Roy Hodgson\u2019s side are still just two points clear of the drop zone.<\/p>\n

Swansea 0-2 Tottenham<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Tottenham enhanced their top-four chances with a hard-fought victory at the Liberty Stadium. The north London side took the lead on 12 minutes, as former Swansea striker Fernando Llorente headed home from a Christian Eriksen cross. Replays showed that the Spaniard was in an offside position when he struck the ball.<\/p>\n

The visitors sealed victory on 89 minutes. Harry Kane played a fantastic ball from just inside the Swansea half to Dele Alli, whose first effort was saved by Lukasz Fabianski. However, the midfielder poked home the rebound to seal the points.<\/p>\n

The defeat leaves Swansea bottom of the table and four from safety. Tottenham moved up to fifth in the table, four points behind fourth-place Liverpool with a game in-hand.<\/p>\n

West Ham 2-1 West Brom<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The Irons recorded a vital win at the bottom end of the Premier League table, with a stoppage-time winner.<\/p>\n

The visitors struck first on the half-hour mark. James McClean hit an effort that took a heavy deflection off Hammers midfielder Pedro Obiang and over Adrian in the home goal.<\/p>\n

The home side were level just before the hour mark. Aaron Cresswell\u2019s cross was met with a towering header from Andy Carroll that beat Ben Foster in the Baggies goal. Carroll sent the home fans into raptures deep into stoppage-time, as the striker fired home from Marko Arnautovic\u2019s cross.<\/p>\n

The win means that West Ham moved up to 16th<\/sup> position in the Premier League table. Meanwhile, the Baggies are 19th<\/sup> and four points away from the safety of 17th<\/sup> place. Alan Pardew\u2019s side remain one of the favourites for relegation this season.<\/p>\n

Manchester City 3-1 Watford<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

League leaders Manchester City got back to wins ways at the Etihad Stadium with a routine victory.<\/p>\n

The Citizens wasted no time in taking the lead, Raheem Sterling scoring in the first minute from close-range after a good cross from Leroy Sane. City extended their advantage on 13 minutes, as Watford defender Christian Kabasele diverted Kevin De Bruyne cross past his own goalkeeper.<\/p>\n

The Citizens added a third on 63 minutes. Kevin De Bruyne\u2019s cross was parried away by Heurelho Gomes, only for Sergio Aguero to score with the rebound. Watford scored a consolation goal on 82 minutes through Andre Gray, but the goal meant very little in the context of the game.<\/p>\n

The win means that Pep Guardiola\u2019s City are now 15 points ahead of second place Manchester United at the top of the table. Watford remain tenth in the table, but could still get dragged into the relegation battle, as the Hornets are just five points of the drop zone.<\/p>\n
