And that\u2019s something I can\u2019t deal with. So, the short bullet points are: I have no interest in being [executive director]. I have no interest in being considered. I\u2019ve let the executive committee know that. I\u2019m also going to leave the NFLPA in the coming days because I don\u2019t have anything left to give the organization.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tretter accepted the chief strategy officer position in October 2024 after serving as NFLPA player president from 2020 through 2024.<br \/>\nFollowing Howell\u2019s exit, the 34-year-old was regarded as one of the best options for interim leadership, but faced immediate and vocal criticism from some former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/sports-betting\/american-football\/nfl\">NFL<\/a> players.<\/p>\n<h2>Ben Watson: \u201cThey Would Be Wise to Remove Tretter As Well.\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Former linebacker <strong>Will Compton<\/strong> wrote on X Sunday<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We\u2019ve gotta be the dumbest Union in all of sports <\/p>\n<p>Ya \u2014let\u2019s vote for the guy who was in charge of hiring Lloyd Howell. <\/p>\n<p>Lets vote for the guy who swept a lot of shit under the rug when NFL owners were colluding to not give out guaranteed contracts <\/p>\n<p>The NFLPA is constantly\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/oAepJKmGM8\">https:\/\/t.co\/oAepJKmGM8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Will Compton (@_willcompton) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_willcompton\/status\/1946932697429115026?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 20, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ben Watson<\/strong>, another former player and former NFLPA executive committee member, added: \u201c<em>They would be wise to remove Tretter as well.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tretter supervised the union\u2019s controversial 16-month search that ended up with Howell\u2019s hire in 2023 while helping push through a series of constitutional changes that kept the process private. <\/p>\n<p>Howell\u2019s leadership came under fire in recent weeks after reporting by ESPN and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=P42Wq3fmTYg\">Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast<\/a> revealed questionable expenses and a confidentiality agreement with the NFL over a collusion grievance.<\/p>\n<p>Tretter denied to CBS Sports that he had access to, or negotiated, that confidential agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The NFLPA\u2019s board of player reps is scheduled to meet Sunday night to discuss interim director candidates, which include <strong>Don Davis, Zamir Cobb and Ned Ehrlich<\/strong>, according to ESPN. <\/p>\n<p>The group will also decide how to conduct the search for Howell\u2019s permanent replacement, and who will oversee it going forward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary: JC Tretter has resigned from his position as the NFL Players Association\u2019s chief strategy officer and said he will not serve as interim director.
