Eliot Bostar<\/strong> of Lincoln, seeks to amend the state constitution and give Nebraskans a chance to vote on legalizing online sports wagering. <\/p>\n<p>Currently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/nebraska-prepares-for-sports-betting-as-slots-bring-in-big-earnings\/\">gambling in Nebraska is limited to casino-style betting<\/a> at the state&#8217;s six licensed racetrack casinos, a change approved by voters in 2020.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Nebraska is currently missing out on a $1.6 billion state online industry and $32 million in annual tax revenue which instead goes to neighboring states like Iowa, Colorado, and Kansas <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bostar emphasized that legalizing mobile betting could provide a new source of funding for property tax relief. However, not everyone sees the proposal as a financial win. <\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AXY1OZ7E8C0?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Opponents: LR20CA Would Directly Threat Nebraska Families<\/h2>\n<p>Advocacy groups such as <strong>Stop Predatory Gambling, Gambling with the Good Life, and the Nebraska Family Alliance<\/strong> have voiced strong opposition, warning that measures like LR20CA pose a &#8220;<em>direct threat<\/em>&#8221; to Nebraska families.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pat Loontjer<\/strong>, executive director of Gambling with the Good Life, pushed back against claims that expanding gambling would lead to lower property taxes.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s been five years, and I don\u2019t know how many of you have had your property taxes reduced, but no one that I\u2019ve ever met. It\u2019s a lie.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>During the hearing, the Legislature\u2019s General Affairs Committee also reviewed several other gambling-related proposals. <\/p>\n<p>Among them was a bill seeking to remove the restriction on betting on Nebraska college games when the Cornhuskers play at home, along with other minor changes to gambling tax allocation.<\/p>\n<p>Opponents also criticized the amendment process, arguing that gambling supporters should take the initiative to get the issue on the ballot instead of relying on lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nate Grasz<\/strong>, executive director of the Nebraska Family Alliance said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If they want this on the ballot. They should go out and do the work themselves rather than expect the senators to do it for them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Nate Grasz: \u201cThe House Always Wins\u201d <\/h2>\n<p>Gambling industry representatives pointed to polling data suggesting that Nebraskans broadly support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/us\/legal-us-online-betting-sites\">online sports betting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Meuli<\/strong>, DraftKings Government Affairs Manager<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Five years ago, your constituents overwhelmingly passed in-person sports betting when they cast their vote yes on the 2020 ballot legalizing it with the state. That enthusiasm has only grown.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, opponents raised concerns about the social costs of expanding gambling, particularly its impact on vulnerable individuals, including minors. <\/p>\n<p>They warned that mobile sports betting could exacerbate gambling addiction and fuel what they call an \u201c<em>epidemic<\/em>\u201d of teen gambling.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The house always wins.
