Adesanya said mid-August that UFC was reluctant initially to give Strickland the \u2018<em>idiot<\/em>\u2019 the title fight as he could end up running his mouth and embarrassing the company in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/au\">Australia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vOX7JQgVJJA?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The champ called it right as that is precisely what Strickland ended up doing at the press conference and caused controversy for the UFC. He showed up to media day with a t-shirt that read \u2018<em>Cancel Me<\/em>\u2019 and made sexist remarks.<\/p>\n<p>These were some of his remarks <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Women don&#8217;t need to work, they need to stay home and raise a family, I&#8217;ve got to make my own food, fold my own laundry, what is the fucking point?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier in the week, Strickland took to social media to say that he initially expected to be surrounded by trans and gay flags in Australia but was pleasantly surprised.  <\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I&#39;m in Sydney and I thought I&#39;m going to be surrounded by dirty liberalS. Gay and trans flags everywhere&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Literally zero.. maybe America is the problem lmao!<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Sean Strickland (@SStricklandMMA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SStricklandMMA\/status\/1698139782239719824?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 3, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<h2>NSW Government Back UFC Events<\/h2>\n<p>Strickland\u2019s comments and views were discussed by the NSW government and condemned. <strong>Steve Kamper<\/strong>, Sport Minister said that while they found Strickland\u2019s remarks unacceptable they did not reflect on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/sports-betting\/mixed-martial-arts\/ufc\">UFC<\/a> or the sport of MMA which was respected and extremely popular in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Kamper said <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The NSW government does not endorse any disrespectful or offensive commentary whether it be from a UFC competitor, a footballer, or a musician.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Leslie Williams<\/strong> who is the shadow minister for women and prevention of domestic violence said <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>They do not reflect the expectations of Australians.
