The man ended up winning the tournament, sparking an outburst within the poker community.<\/p>\n<h2>Florida Man Bested 82 Women to Win the Tournament<\/h2>\n<p>Hughes probably knew he wasn\u2019t supposed to participate in the event but decided to join anyway as he\u2019s protected by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/us\/states\/florida\">Florida<\/a>&#8216;s anti-discrimination law which prohibits casinos from barring male players from taking part in women\u2019s tournaments. <\/p>\n<p>The 70-year-old successfully gained access to the tournament and <strong>competed against 82 women<\/strong>. He emerged victorious, defeating <strong>Dayanna Ciabaton <\/strong>heads-up to win $5,555 in top prize. <\/p>\n<p>The event took place on April 29 as part of the <strong>World Poker Tour (WPT) Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown<\/strong>. Among the participants was poker pro and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/reviews\/americas-cardroom\">Americas Cardroom<\/a> (ACR) ambassador <strong>Ebony Kenney<\/strong>, a well-known advocate for women in poker. <\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Playing the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WPT?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WPT<\/a> ladies event today, and Dave here is the only man. Unfortunately, nobody won the bounty as Hughes was the last man standing in the event.<\/p>\n<h2>Poker Community Reacts<\/h2>\n<p>The 70-year-old was criticized by several poker players, with his actions described as insane by <strong>Charlie Carrel<\/strong>. In a lengthy post on Twitter, the English pro lamented the fact that anybody can identify as a woman and be allowed to invade women\u2019s spaces. <\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">1) Hilarious that he won.<\/p>\n<p>2) It pokes fun at the idea that anybody can identify as a woman and be allowed to enter women&#39;s spaces. <\/p>\n<p>It&#39;s a real issue that people are taking advantage of in many different areas, including sports, prisons, and changing areas. If it\u2019s a tournament designed for women, then common sense would tell you men should not participate. <\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Hughes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top10pokersites.net\/news\/male-poker-player-stirs-controversy-at-wsop-ladies-event\">wasn\u2019t the first man to join an all-female poker tournament<\/a>. In the past, two male players competed in separate editions of the <em>World Series of Poker (WSOP) $10,000 Ladies Event<\/em> in Las Vegas.
