They contain a random selection of items that players can purchase using real money. Upon buying the mystery packs, players don\u2019t know what\u2019s in them until they\u2019re opened. The virtual items are then used by players to upgrade their game. The loot box mechanism in video games has been a widely debated issue, with some countries considering it a form of gambling.<\/p>\n<p>The virtual items in FUT packs are represented by football players. <strong>To assemble the best team, customers should purchase packs of cards with prices going as high as \u00a330.<\/strong> But they won\u2019t know the quality of the items inside the packs until they open them. Players can repeatedly buy the packs until they form their dream squad.<\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zm5sjvChYsw?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A small court in the district of Hermagor declared that the FUT pack system violates Austria\u2019s gambling laws as it offers a \u201cfi<em>nancial benefit<\/em>\u201d to players through the value of the random items that they receive after buying the packs. This constitutes a game of chance and cannot be offered to Austrian players without the required license.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs allegedly purchased the FUT packs via Sony\u2019s PlayStation Store. Among them was a minor who had spent more than \u20ac400 on the mystery packs, the lawsuit claimed. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Sony has been ordered to issue \u20ac338.26 in refunds to the plaintiffs<\/strong>, though the decision is not yet final and the company may still launch an appeal.<\/p>\n<h2>Electronic Arts Making Massive Profits from FUT Packs<\/h2>\n<p>FIFA is a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/sports-betting\/football\">association football<\/a> games developed by <strong>Electronic Arts<\/strong> under the EA Sports brand. The American video game company has been making huge profits from FIFA sales, with the FUT pack feature contributing over $1 billion to the company\u2019s net revenue over the past few
