This was reflected in the fact that even though the company was fined $100 million, its <strong>share price on the Australian Securities Exchange increased by 1.3%<\/strong> on October 18.  <\/p>\n<p>Shareholders are curious if the multi-million dollar penalty would adversely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/star-entertainment-now-facing-uncertain-future-due-to-hefty-financial-penalties\/\">affect its Star\u2019s current financial situation<\/a>. The main cause of concern is if Star has enough in its coffers to pay the $100 million fine. After the Bell inquiry found Star guilty of flouting Australia\u2019s anti-money laundering\/ counter-terror financing (AML\/CTF) laws, many expected the group to lose its NSW license.<\/p>\n<p>Shareholders are legitimately concerned due to the high debt tally on Star\u2019s balance sheet. The <strong>company had only $82 million in cash and other assets<\/strong>, as reported in June 2022. Star also has considerable interest-bearing liabilities at the end of FY22 totaling $1.3 billion. The group <strong>earned only $14.1 million in the current financial year<\/strong>, which means that its shareholders will have to wait for dividends even more.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s new CEO, <strong>Robbie Cooke<\/strong>, was optimistic about Star\u2019s approach to the NSICC&#8217;s decision. Cooke recognized the need to restore integrity in the company.  <\/p>\n<h2>Critics Demand Stricter Action<\/h2>\n<p>The NSICC\u2019s action did not impress anti-gambling opponents. Gambling analyst <strong>Charles Livingstone<\/strong> said that the punishment was too lenient. NSICC chair <strong>Phillip Crawford<\/strong> defended the decision saying that Star merited a chance as it was more accommodative instead of being adversarial.  <\/p>\n<p>Crawford said that the decision was taken after considering the situation of about 10,000 employees at the casino. <strong>NSW premier Dominic Perrottet<\/strong> said that the Star Sydney license won&#8217;t be renewed unless Star creates circumstances that comply with gaming laws.
