The <strong>Adam Bell report<\/strong> (part <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsw.gov.au\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-09\/Review%20of%20The%20Star%20Pty%20Ltd%2C%20Report%2C%20Volume%201.pdf\">1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsw.gov.au\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-09\/Review%20of%20The%20Star%20Pty%20Ltd%2C%20Report%2C%20Volume%202.pdf\">2<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsw.gov.au\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-09\/Review%20of%20The%20Star%20Pty%20Ltd%2C%20Report%2C%20Volume%203%20with%20Appendices.pdf\">3<\/a>) regarding an inquiry into the company&#8217;s suitability to run a casino in New South Wales (NSW) has just been published and the findings make for poor reading according to <strong>Philip Crawford<\/strong>, the chair of the newly formed NSW Independent Casino Commission (NICC).<\/p>\n<p>However, the regulator hasn&#8217;t made any decision yet on whether or not it will revoke Star Sydney&#8217;s permit to operate, and industry experts believe the agency cannot afford to strip the casino of its license because of its economic contributions to the state. <\/p>\n<h2>Experts Say Star Sydney will Keep its License<\/h2>\n<p>The NICC may hold some senior executives accountable for the illegal practices at <strong>Pyrmont casino<\/strong> but it won&#8217;t go as far as ordering Star to close the venue. Doing so would have a massive impact on a lot of people, including shareholders and frontline workers, who don\u2019t have anything to do with the breaches committed by the casino, said <strong>Geoffrey Watson<\/strong>, a director at the Centre for Public Integrity who also previously served as NSW police integrity commissioner. <\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zejNCCOKXd8?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Star, just like Crown, is just too big and too important for the NSW economy, Watson added.<\/p>\n<p>Since license revocation entails a lot of risks for employees, investors, and the state&#8217;s economy in general, what the regulator can do now is to order an overhaul of the board and management and establish an independent monitor to oversee Star&#8217;s casino operations in Sydney, as is currently the case with Crown which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/crown-sydney-finally-set-to-open-this-august-after-a-two-year-delay\/\">granted provisional license to continue to operate its Barangaroo venue<\/a>, according to <strong>Helen Bird<\/strong>, a senior lecturer at Swinburne University. <\/p>\n<h2>Star Given 14 Days to Respond to Report<\/h2>\n<p>The Bell Review into Star&#8217;s Sydney operations was launched earlier this year and heard plenty of allegations relating to money laundering, fraud, and organized crime. Among them was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/suncity-group-to-shut-vip-rooms-at-star-casinos\/\">Star&#8217;s association with Suncity<\/a>, a junket operator linked to criminal gangs. <\/p>\n<p>The company allegedly allowed the embattled VIP gaming room operator to run an illegal cash cage and a secret gambling room at its Sydney venue \u2013 all of that kept from the knowledge of the NSW regulator.<\/p>\n<p>Other violations include <strong>facilitating $900 million in illicit gambling transactions through China UnionPay cards, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/star-entertainment-encouraging-local-patrons-to-evade-taxes\/\">tax evasion<\/a><\/strong>, as well as <strong>breaches of the state&#8217;s anti-money laundering laws<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Star has 14 days to respond to the report and after that, NICC will decide on the appropriate penalty it will impose against the <a
