Cummins used to be the vice-captain under Tim Paine but was promoted after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legalgamblingandthelaw.com\/news\/ex-aussie-captain-tim-paine-could-be-dropped-for-the-ashes-series\/\">Paine resigned due to a sexting controversy<\/a> that reared its ugly head just before the Ashes. <\/p>\n<p>This is going to be a big test for Cummins as he will not only have to carry a big workload during the series but also be on top of his game when it comes to leadership. The selectors have gone with <strong>Marcus Harris<\/strong> and <strong>David Warner<\/strong> as the openers, <strong>Marnus Labuschagne<\/strong> takes the number three spot with vice-captain <strong>Steve Smith<\/strong> at four.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7NEWS Australia<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/f4Zb_O1N_s4?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The number 5 spot was a tossup between <strong>Travis Head<\/strong> and <strong>Usman Khawaja<\/strong> and Head has got the nod for the first test. All-rounder <strong>Cameron Green<\/strong> will play at six, with <strong>Alex Carey<\/strong> taking the gloves from Paine at 7. The four bowlers are the usual lot with Cummins, <strong>Josh Hazelwood, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Shane Warne\u2019s Advice Shunned <\/h2>\n<p>Warne made it very clear the in the media that he believed the selectors should drop the out of form M Starc and go with <strong>Jhye Richardson<\/strong> for the first test. The selectors have chosen to ignore the advice of the spin king and back Starc to perform. Warne has also called for Lyon to be replaced by leggie <strong>Mitch Swepson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is why Australia struggled last year as Lyon\/Starc struggled to have an impact. However, he has lots of experience having played <em>61 tests and taking 255 wickets<\/em>. The selectors have also decided to go with veteran off spinner Lyon who could be playing his last <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legalgamblingandthelaw.com\/au\/legal-australian-online-betting-sites\">Ashes test series<\/a> at home.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a lot of pressure on Marcus Harris, Travis Head, Cameron Green and M Starc during the first test.
