The Jets, who were coached by the <strong>Eric Mangini<\/strong>, disclosed that a video crew associated with the Patriots was filming from an unauthorized location in the stadium. The debacle resulted in a $500,000 penalty for coach Bill Belichick, a $250,000 penalty for the team, and a docked first-round draft pick.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriots confessed their role in Spygate II and immediately complied with the investigation after the Bengals\u2019 security team caught them. The Patriots stated that the filming was a mistake from the crew, and not an intentional attempt at cheating by the team. <\/p>\n<p>The Patriots also faced a similar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/espn\/otl\/story\/_\/id\/13533995\/split-nfl-new-england-patriots-apart#:~:text=During%20the%20first%20half%20of,the%20scandal%20known%20as%20Spygate.\">scandal in Deflategate<\/a>, where they had to pay $1 million and a docked first-round draft pick, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/tom-brady-says-goodbye-to-new-england-patriots-and-signs-with-the-tampa-bay-buccaneers\/\">lose then-quarterback Tom Brady<\/a> for four games. <\/p>\n<h2>Patriots Sign Cam Newton<\/h2>\n<p>The news on the Patriots\u2019 punishment comes amidst big news for Patriots fans: the team recently signed quarterback <strong>Cam Newton<\/strong> to a league minimum one-year contract that is packed with incentives for good performance. Newton, who is coming off a shoulder injury, could very likely replace the legendary Brady as the team\u2019s starting quarterback if his shoulder recovers in time.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the docked draft pick, the Patriots still have enough opportunities to round out their team with six remaining picks in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/sports-betting\/american-football\/nfl\">2021 NFL draft<\/a>.
