B.&quot; Pritzker<\/strong> of Illinois signed an executive order last week that is expected to clear the way for statewide mobile betting ahead of schedule. <\/p>\n<p>Last year, Gov. Pritzker spearheaded a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/illinois-green-lights-legal-sports-betting-and-casino-expansion\/\">gambling reform initiative that legalized sports betting<\/a> and expanded the reach of brick and mortar casinos within the state. <\/p>\n<p>On March 9, Illinois officially launched sports betting via the <strong>Rivers Casino Des Plaines<\/strong>. The launch was immediately cut short a week later by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced non-essential businesses such as casinos to shut their doors to curb the spread of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>There is no word on when Illinois\u2019 casinos will be permitted to reopen. <\/p>\n<h2>Remote Registration Allowed for State Punters<\/h2>\n<p>Gov. Pritzker\u2019s executive order opens the door for Illinois punters to register digital sports wagering accounts remotely, a departure from last year\u2019s gambling reform initiative that mandated in-person registration through sports facilities, casinos, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/fanduel-plans-plans-buy-illinois-racetrack-for-sports-betting-access\/\">racetracks<\/a> before being allowed to bet online. <\/p>\n<p>The order will apply until the time that the <strong>Illinois Gaming Board<\/strong> (IGB) awards its first master license for sports betting.  As of right now, only two casinos in-state are allowed to provide sports betting temporarily: the <strong>Argosy Casino Alton<\/strong> and the aforementioned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riverscasino.com\/desplaines\/\">Rivers Casino Des Plaines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eyewitness News WEHT WTVW<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rhf290Dc3f8?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Illinois has seven land-based casinos and three racetracks, all of which can apply for sports betting licenses from the IGB. Neither the Argosy nor the Rivers Casino have applied for master permits; no announcement has been made by either party on the issue or their plans for the future.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Pritzker\u2019s latest move is expected by industry observers to expedite the launch of statewide mobile betting in Illinois. Currently, no timeline has been offered for the launch of digital betting, either by licensed operators or state regulators.<\/p>\n<h2>IGB\u2019s June 11 Meeting to Shed More Details<\/h2>\n<p>The IGB\u2019s next virtual meeting is scheduled for June 11, their first since January 30. More details are expected to emerge after the conclusion of the meeting on the state of digital sports betting in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/us\/states\/illinois\">Illinois<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The IGB\u2019s administrator <strong>Marcus Fruchter<\/strong> noted that Gov. Pritzker\u2019s executive order is aimed to protect a critical revenue source for the state in the wake of the financial havoc caused by COVID-19. <\/p>\n<p>The Executive Director for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.illinoiscasinogaming.org\">Illinois Casino Gaming Association<\/a>, <strong>Tom Swoik<\/strong>, welcomed Gov. Pritzker\u2019s move.
