The video asked the NFL to read a statement they had prepared that would affirm the league\u2019s solidarity with its players in fighting against systemic racism.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ESPN<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pjFJvCHZumU?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>US President Donald Trump responded shortly by tweet defending <strong>Drew Brees<\/strong>, the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints for his belief that kneeling during the national anthem was tantamount to disrespecting the military. <\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I am a big fan of Drew Brees. I think he\u2019s truly one of the greatest quarterbacks, but he should not have taken back his original stance on honoring our magnificent American Flag. OLD GLORY is to be revered, cherished, and flown high&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1268998142860627969?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 5, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The NFL has since responded via its commissioner, Roger Goodell, who released a video shortly after Trump\u2019s tweet. In the video, a visibly emotional Goodell was clear in taking responsibility, stating that the league was wrong in ignoring player protests and ending with a statement of solidarity for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/anti-racist-protests-rage-across-the-us-as-sports-stars-speak-out\/\">nationwide protests<\/a> spurred by a police officer kneeling on George Floyd\u2019s neck until he died.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We, the NFL, condemn racism and the systematic oppression of Black People. We, the NFL, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest. We, the NFL, believe Black Lives Matter. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/InspireChange?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#InspireChange<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ENWQP8A0sv\">pic.twitter.com\/ENWQP8A0sv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NFL (@NFL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NFL\/status\/1269034074552721408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 5, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The video is a clear rejection of Trump and his policies, as well as the substantial base of fans who are Trump supporters. Brees, the recipient of Trump\u2019s admiration in his tweet, has also responded by distancing himself from the President. Brees implored Trump by name to stop using the flag to distract and divide Americans and discuss the issue of racial injustice head-on. <\/p>\n<p>A significant number of team owners are public supporters of Trump, most famously New England Patriots\u2019 owner <strong>Robert Kraft<\/strong>. Kraft is among the 10 NFL team owners who made contributions to Trump\u2019s inauguration committee. <\/p>\n<h2>Kaepernick Still Exiled from NFL Teams<\/h2>\n<p>However, despite Goodell\u2019s unprecedented apology, many are still calling for justice for Kaepernick. Since his protests four years ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/colin-kaepernick-on-verge-of-returning-after-nfl-settlement\/\">Kaepernick has since found in limbo as no NFL team wants to hire<\/a> the controversial player despite still being in excellent playing condition.<\/p>\n<p>Kaepernick has lost millions in potential salaries that he could have earned had he stayed quiet.
