{"id":10558,"date":"2020-04-01T14:07:05","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T14:07:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/?p=10558"},"modified":"2020-04-01T08:16:11","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T08:16:11","slug":"nfl-faces-lawsuit-from-free-agent-eric-over-post-vote-cba-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/nfl-faces-lawsuit-from-free-agent-eric-over-post-vote-cba-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL Faces Lawsuit From Free Agent Eric Over Post-Vote CBA Changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/eric-reid.jpg\" alt=\"Eric Reid\" title=\"NFL Faces Lawsuit From Free Agent Eric Over Post-Vote CBA Changes\" width=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-10559\" \/><strong>Eric Reid<\/strong>, free-agent safety has announced that he will be fighting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/nfl-new-collective-bargaining-agreement-to-bring-changes\/\">the National Football League\u2019s (NFL) freshly approved collective bargaining agreement<\/a> (CBA), calling for it to be rendered null and void after the NFL added new language after it was ratified by a player vote.<\/p>\n<p>Reid is seeking a probe into the new language, as well as a revote from all members of the <strong>NFL Players Association<\/strong> (PA). <\/p>\n<p>Reid\u2019s lawyers sent a letter to the PA earlier this week stating that the <a href=\"https:\/\/nflpaweb.blob.core.windows.net\/media\/Default\/PDFs\/Agents\/NFL-NFLPA%20CBA%20March%205,%202020.pdf\">CBA posted on the PA\u2019s website<\/a> after it was passed with a 1,019-959 vote on March 15 used different language from the CBA that players voted for and signed.<\/p>\n<p>The new CBA is scheduled to take effect for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/betting-opportunity\/nfl-2019-season-preview\">the forthcoming NFL 2020 season<\/a>, and will be kept in place until 2030, when a new CBA will be renegotiated.<\/p>\n<p>The letter drafted by Reid\u2019s lawyers &#8211; <strong>Ray Genco and Ben Meiselas<\/strong>, honed in a slight adjustment of language in the section regarding the NFL\u2019s disability plan, which could affect more than a thousand ex-players who applied for and completed their Social Security disability insurance payments before the Jan. 1, 2015 deadline. In the version of the CBA members of the PA signed, offsets applied only to players who applied after the deadline.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My lawyers <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/meiselasb?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@meiselasb<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/markgeragos?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@markgeragos<\/a> sent a letter to the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NFLPA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NFLPA<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DeSmithNFLPA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@DeSmithNFLPA<\/a> this morning demanding answers why language in CBA was changed after vote and demanding a new vote and investigation. Spokespersons for both parties have affirmed they will need time for their own legal team to review the documents under question.<\/p>\n<h2>Probe and Revote Necessary<\/h2>\n<p>Meiselas said that his client has pushed back against the new CBA due to its position on disabled players. In the process of helping former players who are now disabled, Meiselas discovered the discrepancy in language.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The change in CBA language after the vote, even if it were minor, is a big deal and grounds for invalidation.
