If Ohio follows the lead of 19 other states in legalizing sports wagering, this figure could increase even more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gov. Mike DeWine<\/strong> has indicated that sports betting will eventually be available in the state, but added that before it happens, state officials will first have to iron out key details\u2014such as controlling problem gambling and determining whether mobile phone bets or college sports bets will be permitted. <\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WYpLjT3tR2k?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/news\/ohio-senator-confident-that-sports-betting-bill-will-be-approved\/\">Two bills were filed last year with Dave Greenspan<\/a> playing a big role. These two bills have been refiled in Ohio to legalize sports betting: <a href=\"http:\/\/search-prod.lis.state.oh.us\/solarapi\/v1\/general_assembly_133\/bills\/hb194\/IN\/00?format=html\">HB 194<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/search-prod.lis.state.oh.us\/solarapi\/v1\/general_assembly_133\/bills\/sb111\/IN\/00?format=html\">SB 111<\/a>. HB 194  would grant to power to regulate the industry to the <strong>Ohio Lottery<\/strong>, while SB 111 would grant them to the Casino Control Commission. <\/p>\n<p>The sponsor of SB 111, <strong>State Sen. John Eklund<\/strong> (R-Chardon), stated that current sports betting restrictions do not make sense for Ohioans. Sen. Eklund\u2019s bill would allow casino and racino licensees to provide sports wagering for their customers in-person, on the Internet, or through mobile devices. SB 111 would also allow intercollegiate sports bets, but not high school sports bets. <\/p>\n<h2>Colleges, Gambling Operators At Odds<\/h2>\n<p>Colleges and universities in Ohio, both private and public, have expressed their disapproval of allowing betting on intercollegiate sports. Presidents of 44 universities\u201430 private and 14 public have released a signed letter contending that bets on intercollegiate sports would threaten the integrity of their sports programs and encourage underage gambling. The same sentiment was expressed by athletic directors from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legitgambling.com\/sports-betting\/basketball\/college\">Ohio\u2019s Division I NCAA teams<\/a> in a letter released last October.<\/p>\n<p>Gambling operators in Ohio have been supportive of both bills. JACK Entertainment\u2019s <strong>Adam Sullivan<\/strong> testified that Ohio\u2019s licensees already have the required infrastructure to handle sports betting in a safe, responsible way to customers.
